Sympathy For The Devil was made at the time when the Stones were at their creative peak and Jean-Luc Godard was taking a political-revolutionary direction with his films. With Godard's peculiar style, Sympathy For The Devil can be seen as two films in one. In the first film, the Stones work in a London studio on their latest song "Sympathy For The Devil". In the second film, which contains a series of abstract-fictional vignettes, Godard explores various themes such as race, pornography and the irony of interviewing celebrities.

One Plus One n'aurait pu être qu'un documentaire musical de plus. Mais fidèle à son art du chaos, Godard contamine ce point de départ par des voix multiples charriant textes érotiques ou pensées idéologiques.
